Ruth began painting oils of Northumberland in around 2014, when her love of wild, wide landscapes and the emotional impact of changing light and weather inspired a change in career direction from an award-winning interior design business.A visit to the Outer Hebrides provided further inspiration and Ruth’s instinctive response to the rich colours of the Isles, in the landscapes and echoed in the traditional tweeds, produced a profound effect on her work.“Until then I had largely used very realistic tones to accurately reflect the view I was illustrating,” she said.

“But when I went to the Outer Hebrides I just saw the rich colours of Harris Tweed everywhere and that made me push the colours I was using much further,” she added.

Now her paintings of both areas are avidly collected by art lovers across the world.

To accompany the paintings, copies of Ruth’s two new books, “The Northumberland Coast Captured” and “Outer Hebrides Captured” will also be on sale. Along with images of her work, they contain poems by North East poets Katrina Porteous and Peter Rees.
