About the exhibition…
Making Space is a collaborative exhibition highlighting the role that adult education plays in supporting both creative practice and personal wellbeing. It showcases artwork and select pieces of creative writing from across NCL City Learning’s wider Creative Arts courses, covering diverse materials, viewpoints, and techniques.
The Creative Arts Dept. at NCL City Learning teach technique across painting and drawing, textile arts, printmaking, photography, and creative writing. Their courses encourage participants to experiment, broaden skills, to hone their own creative approach, and to nourish their practice.
Newcastle Art Centre, The Showcase and NCL City Learning present this exhibition in order to strengthen the connection between community learning and the wider arts landscape, showing that cultural spaces can include and represent everyone.
“We are the Creative Arts Department of Newcastle City Learning which is the name of Newcastle City Council’s adult education service, and part funded by NECA. We help people in Newcastle learn new skills, gain qualifications, build their confidence and get ready for work. We also provide learning to help residents improve their well-being.“
