About the Exhibition…
The Northern Summer Exhibition is NAC & The NOEAC’s annual, open submission exhibition, and it invites all North Eastern and Cumbrian artists to share their artwork.
Since its first year in 2023, The Northern Summer Exhibition has showcased artwork from professionals, hobbyists, and novices. It welcomes pieces from across mediums, genres, subjects and abilities, striving to celebrate the range of creative vision and artistic practice in the region.
The exhibition’s reach has grown year on year; in 2025, the Gallery walls featured 100 artists across 124 artworks. This year we have selected 131 artworks from a record 496 submissions!
Now a staple of Newcastle Arts Centre and The North of England Art Club’s calendar, each year the exhibition introduces new artists and further enriches the network of practicing creatives at home in the North.
Each year 3x artists are awarded a Best In Show Title: Newcastle Arts Centre’s Vote, North of Eng. Art Club’s Vote, both announced at the Preview, and the Public Vote, which is announced at the close of the exhibition. The Best In Show Artists win £100 Vouchers for the Arts Centre’s renowned Details Art Materials store, to further equip their practice and craft.
Last year NAC’s Best In Show was Nick Banks, with his wonderful piece Fading Knight. This year, he’s part of our Exhibition Programme…

New Drawings and Sculptures by Nick Banks
This latest body of work by Nick Banks, comprising drawing and sculpture, captures an eclectic breadth of subject matter, across moments, objects, and memories. As a collection, ECLECTICUS deviates from theme, developing ideas and imagery that have flowed to Nick ‘like figures emerging from the mist.’
