This showcase is comprised of puppets kindly loaned for display from two local organisation’s personal collections; Moving Parts Arts CIO who, based in the West end of Newcastle, produce the yearly Newcastle Puppetry Festival as well as overseeing numerous outreach and community
programmes throughout the year; and Life and Limb Puppets, a Gateshead based puppetry company specialising in producing high quality puppet shows for families as well as partnering with local charities to create engaging educational workshops for schools across the region.

The showcase is not only a demonstration of the variety of styles of puppets, but also of where they come from. Within the display there are puppets from as close as Gateshead to as far as Indonesia. Puppetry is a universal theatrical language mostly down its ability to convey story and emotion
through visuals alone, and puppet design is an essential pilar of that ability.
As you look over the collection, you’ll notice the obvious artistry at hand as well as the unique style that each maker brings to their work. We hope for
this showcase to cast a light on the immense talent of those who dedicate their skills to creating such expressive characters that we all love to see
brought to life on stage or screen.
