On display at the Assembly House…

Open Day and Drop-In Viewings
11am – 2pm Tuesday 19th March

Growing Room a street level experiment. You may have noticed its progress in our Assembly House window on Westgate Road. This 3 metre high architectural structure has been grown using mycelium (the root network of fungus) and knitted wool and is part of a programme of research by the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment at Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Head down to the Assembly House, 55 Westgate Road anytime between 11am-2pm on Tuesday 19th March for a chance to see this ground-breaking structure up close before it travels to Edinburgh Science Festival the following day. Other living textiles installations will be on display and Researcher Jane Scott will be around to answer questions about the work and this fascinating field of research.
