Being ‘happily stranded’ in New Zealand in 2020 launched Good Habits’ full-time musical adventure, and their joyous genre-fusion has received international critical acclaim and has seen them become rising stars in the UK indie-folk scene. Including performances at Glastonbury and WOMAD; tours throughout the UK, EU and Australasia; and a charting Top 40 Folk Charts album.
“Pinpoint precision vocals, hard-rocking accordion, and great acoustic grooves. English folk musicianship at its 21st-century best.” – Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
Composed of Bonnie Schwarz (cello + vocals) and Pete Shaw (accordion + synths + perc), the pair mix revved-up virtuosity and harmony with vivid storytelling, drawing on their diverse musical tastes and weaving them into an action-packed narrative of genre-bending goodness. At the end of 2021, they returned to the UK from NZ for new beginnings, and since have spread their music throughout Europe with their continued momentum and have developed a loyal fanbase.
After winning awards for their unique blend of indie and folk, they released their latest album “Quarter-Life” in 2024 which charted in the Top 40 Official Folk Charts and received multiple 5* reviews and radio play across BBC Radio, The Morning Star, Songlines and internationally.
“This duo has an infectious energy and joy that’s impossible to resist” – Folk Radio UK

What are the Floor Spots?
The F Word will champion emerging, local Folk artists. Each night will kick off with supporting ‘Floor Spots’, hosted by Alasdair Paul (DIY Ceilidh, Pons Aelius) and dedicated for North East based Folk musicians who wants to share their sound with a new audience.
If you’re a Folk artist based in the North East and are interested in sharing something new with an audience, we’d love to hear from you.
You could be just starting out on your musical journey into the world of Folk, you could be ‘emerging’ on to the scene, or you could be a seasoned Folk musician with new stuff to share.
Just email us at admin@newcastle-arts-centre.co.uk – introduce yourself, what you play, a bit about your experience and which of the above nights you’d be interested in performing a Floor Spot.
All Floor Spot musicians who’ve been invited via email exchange see the headline gig for free!
