With a theme of summer landscapes and seascapes, this workshop offers an opportunity to create an expressive woodcut celebrating the season.
In this class, we’ll explore the art of relief printing using traditional woodcut techniques. You will guided to carve your image, ink your block with a choice of colours and print your woodcut using a printing press. Background colours can be added using found wood which offers beautiful woodgrain patterns, the movement of the grain suggesting landscapes, seascapes and turbulent skies.
By the end of the day, you will have printed a small edition of multicoloured woodcuts to take home. Your woodblock will be A5 so please bring images to fit that size. Printmaking can get messy so please wear old clothes or bring an apron.
All materials provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own interesting pieces of wood to print from.
