This is a one-part morning course on:
Saturday 11th July
10am – 1pm

Join the bookbinder Ruth McCann for this short evening course on Japanese Book Binding!

Students will learn about grain direction of paper and how to pierce holes in preparation for sewing.

After selecting card and thread from a selection of colours students will learn a variety of different sewing patterns.

There will be a selection of different style bindings in the studio for learners to examine and discuss. This course is perfect for beginners of book binding

We will discuss traditional bookbinding tools and their purpose.

All abilities welcome.
All materials provided.

Booking Procedure – What happens next?

What should you bring with you on the day?
Nothing at all! We provide all the materials you need for every course. We do recommend wearing clothing that is easily washed – just in case!

Lunch is not provided.

Refreshments
Refreshments are not provided, however we provide water for our attendants.

Where do the art courses take place?
All courses take place in Studio A or Studio B on the Second Floor of our Studio Block. This can be reached through the Black Swan Courtyard (on Westgate Road).

Parking
We recommend parking in the Grainger Town Multi-Storey (NE1 4DP) – 5 Minute walk from Newcastle Arts Centre.

Cancelling a course booking?
If you are not able to come to a course you have booked just get in touch with us as soon as you can. We will try to arrange a full refund where possible. Need to cancel your booking? You must inform us at least one week before the course’s start date to guarantee a refund.
