With Frances Arnold
This is a one day course on:
Saturday February 20th
10am – 4pm
Embrace the fluidity of ink in your sketches in this introduction to landscape drawing. Ink is a direct medium that allows you to make a quick sketch or work slowly with washes to build layers of tone within your landscape drawings.
Take inspiration from Van Gogh’s ink landscape drawings full of mark marking, and Japanses artists exploring ink’s versatility for creating bold shapes, detailed foregrounds and atmospheric, rural landscapes. In this course, you’ll refine your basic drawing techniques using ink, dip pens and brushes to create a range of lines, marks and washes within a landscape image. I’ll guide you through basic landscape composition and tips on using digital landscape photography as your drawing inspiration. During the workshops, you’ll create striking black and white images using the Notan technique and use dilute inks to explore smooth graduations of tone inspired by Japanese Yugen aesthetics. .
All abilities welcome.
