Create your own Christmas inspired designs and personalise your cards and wrapping paper!
Working with North East artist, Nick Christie, you will be shown how to carve a festive lino block.
Lino cutting is a relief printing technique, where areas are cut away using a sharp tool, leaving only the areas that you wish to print. The raised surface which has been carved, is then inked in any color you want using a roller. You will be shown how to print by hand as well as using a press. There are some handy tricks to learn, including transferring your design to the block, by either tracing designs or sketching out your idea beforehand. There are a range of tools for cutting different types of lines and shaped.
You will be taught how to handprint these onto cards and wrapping paper in coloured inks of your choice! Feel free to bring any papers or fabrics that you fancy printing onto as well.
Nick will take you through a variety of ways this technique can be used, including the ability to create multiples with relative speed – a great way to create your own limited edition run of Christmas patterns! Take away your cards and wrapping paper to give to friends and family.
