Join bookbinder Ruth McCann for this two‑part evening course exploring the beautiful art of Coptic bookbinding!
Students will learn how to prepare pages for a Coptic binding, including folding and punching signatures, preparing covers, and understanding the distinctive exposed‑spine sewing technique. You will then stitch your book using traditional Coptic methods, creating a flexible, lay‑flat binding that is both functional and decorative.
Throughout the course, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss the tools and materials used for Coptic bindings.
Your tutor will bring a range of Coptic‑style books for learners to examine, compare, and draw inspiration from.
This course is ideal for beginners or anyone curious about hand‑crafted book structures.
