With Nick Christie
This is a one-part daytime course on:
Thursday, September 17th
10am – 4pm
Big Stamp Printmaking is exactly how it sounds.
In this workshop we aim to go large scale with our stamps, up to A4 size. Once you have your stamp, this can be printed on a multitude of surfaces, including paper, fabric including tote bags, pretty much anything that will hold ink. These stamps work great for branding, but also mainly for the fun.
Learn how to carve a printing block from and eraser like stamp material by hand, using a selection of relief cutting tools. If you have ever tried lino cutting, the material is actually a lot softer to carve but still holds detail. You will be shown different ways to transfer your image to the block for carving, using tracing and other transfer methods. This technique can be used to create exciting repeat patterns as well.
Once the block is carved, you will be shown how to mount your printing block onto wood, which will help with the printing, and give the feel of an authentic stamp. Next you will be shown how to ink up the stamp using relief ink and print your artwork onto paper and fabric.
There will be some sample fabric for you to do test prints onto, however we advise that you bring any fabrics that you wish to print onto. The best fabrics include natural fibres, such as cotton, wool, linen, silk etc
All abilities welcome.
