Newcastle-based songwriter Mat Hunsley blends folk and alternative influences into a sound uniquely his own. He steps into the spotlight with this debut album, The Things We Need, supported by the PRS Open Fund. His music explores personal and universal themes, inviting listeners to reflect on the world around them.

This album was self-produced in his home studio, and establishes Mat Hunsley as a reflective, authentic voice in folk and alternative music.

Jude Murphy and Dan Stanley are a well-established and popular duo in the North East jazz scene. Their music is laid back, classy jazz, Latin and blues driven by Dan’s stunning guitar work, Jude’s mellow jazzy vocals and stylish double bass playing. Their core repertoire stretches across the Great American Songbook, jazz classics from Miles Davis and Kenny Burrell and infectious catchy Brazilian songs such as Corcovado, Waters of March and the highly danceable Fato Consumado.

Live this Tuesday evening, The Bede Trio. Folk influenced Jazz from a local threesome performing on bass, piano and sax and celebrating the launch of their new album. The Bede Trio perform their own original work as well as some fresh arrangements of Northumbrian and Scandinavian folk songs.

London based jazz guitarist Tom Remon will take to our stage, joined by one of his varied roster of collaborators, to deliver an evening of smooth, classic jazz. Tom has been performing finger-picked. smooth jazz guitar across the UK and Europe for over a decade, teaming up with complimentary artists such as Sid Jacobs, Neil Yates and Laurence Harrison.

Eva Fox and the Sound Hounds – Thursday 23rd April

Our live music this Tuesday comes from local quartet Eva Fox & the Sound Hounds. Jazz vocalist Eva Fox is joined by seasoned musicians on the local jazz scene: the multi-tasking, musical stylings of Jude Murphy on bass, organ and piano aficionado Steve Chambers and all-rounder drummer Sid White.

The Sound Hounds, whilst keeping their style close to the swinging rhythms of the Great American Songbook era, have taken inspiration from the modern stylings of jazz vocalists Diana Krall, Melody Gardot & Madeleine Peyroux to mention a few, and have fused an eclectic mix of jazz-styled 60s-70s tunes with a few blues and contemporary pop variations.

Long Remon Zilker – Tuesday 28th April

An evening of traditional Irish folk music from a trio of touring musicians. Nicolas Long; a fiddle player influenced by his Kerry heritage, with a very personal, emotive and soulful playing style. Tom Remon; a jazz guitarist and composer based in London who, through tutelage from trumpeter Neil Yates, has embraced a traditional Irish style. Ben Zilker; a flautist based in both North Kerry and Athens, having originally started performing as a bodhrán player.
