A vibrant journey from 1960 to 2000

5th OCT – 9th NOV 2024 – NAC GALLERY.

PREVIEWSAT 5th OCT, 2-4pm

This project consists of a painting representing every year from 1960, the year Paul was born, to 2000, each a snapshot of the people, the objects, the events, the memories.

There is a strong autobiographical element to the work, yet also universal components that will reach out to anyone who experienced or has a relationship with these decades.

Paul believes this was the punk rock generation. Having said this, not only those with a particular punk experience will identify the work. The vast majority of the memories and experiences will be shared ones, and the collection offers a look back into a past that connects so many of us.

Harvey has always been involved with punk, and still plays with the band Penetration, as he says that it’s good for the soul to play authentic punk rock.

He joined the Stuckists in 2001 after reading about them in the Sunday Times and recognising a philosophy of art that he identified with. He has been a major exhibitor with them since, and also curated Stuckist shows in Newcastle.

Having moved from London in the mid 80s, he is now based in Whitley Bay and lectures in Art and Design at Tyne Metropolitan College. He is author to multiple writings on the Stuckism movement, Punk culture and artistic practice.
