Explore the expressive qualities of charcoal and ink, and the precision of pen and pencil to create tonal landscape drawings.
In this one day course, we’ll explore how each material can be applied to create different effects in a monochrome landscape drawing. We’ll take inspiration from artists who use monochrome for a quick sketch, to capture shifting weather or portray dramatic vistas. I’ll guide you through the development of a small drawing in your choice of monochrome medium. We’ll draw from a selection of landscape images or you are welcome to work from your own reference images. Along the way, pick up some quick tips for converting digital photographs into black & white, editing images, drawing landscapes in proportion and expressing your imagination!
By the end of the day, you’ll have greater confidence with these classic drawing materials, a selection fo sketches in charcoal, ink, pen and pencil and your own small landscape drawing.
