This is a two day course on:
Saturdays, March 9th & 16th,
10.00 – 16.00
If you are interested in clay or ceramic sculpture, but want to discover a way that you can use this material at home without accessing a kiln and the extra cost of firing, this course is for you!
In the first session of this course, you will create a simple armature onto which you will build a small to medium size sculpture with air-dry clay.
In the second session, you can then spend time refining or decorating your dried sculptures with acrylic paint, and finishing with an optional acrylic gloss to give the effect of fired ceramic.
This course will cover the basics of clay building, joining and carving techniques, as well as provide an introduction to using clay for making ceramic objects and sculpture in the future!

What should you bring with you on the day?
Nothing at all! We provide all the materials you need for every course. We do recommend wearing clothing that is easily washed – just in case!

Lunch is not provided.
Refreshments
Refreshments are not provided, however we provide water for our attendants.
Where do the art courses take place?
All courses take place in Studio A or Studio B on the Second Floor of our Studio Block. This can be reached through the Black Swan Courtyard (on Westgate Road).
Parking
We recommend parking in the Grainger Town Multi-Storey (NE1 4DP) – 5 Minute walk from Newcastle Arts Centre.
Cancelling a course booking?
If you are not able to come to a course you have booked just get in touch with us as soon as you can. We will try to arrange a full refund where possible. Need to cancel your booking? You must inform us at least one week before the course’s start date to guarantee a refund.
