Portrait Drawing in Charcoal (December 6th & 13th)

This is a two-part evening course on:
Wednesdays, 6th and 13th of December,
6 – 9pm.
Portrait drawing is a great way to develop your drawing skills, and especially your tonal drawing. This course is aimed at exploring the use of charcoal to develop your portrait and final drawing skills.
We’ll use a range of different charcoals to see what you prefer, including willow charcoal, compressed charcoal and even Nitram charcoals, which come in grades like a pencil, to help you control your tones.
You’ll be guided on how to create a drawing step by step, and how best to build a high quality tonal drawing. The course is aimed at all abilities.
You will each be given a box of Nitram Charcoal, worth over £10, to keep at the end of the course. We’d also like you to take your drawing with you, so please bring an A3 wallet or folder with you.
You will be using charcoal during the course – be aware that this can be messy, so please wear an old shirt or apron while drawing.

Booking Procedure – What happens next?

What should you bring with you on the day?
Nothing at all! We provide all the materials you need for every course. We do recommend wearing clothing that is easily washed – just in case!

Lunch is not provided.
Refreshments
Refreshments are not provided, however we provide water for our attendants.
Where do the art courses take place?
All courses take place in Studio A or Studio B on the Second Floor of our Studio Block. This can be reached through the Black Swan Courtyard (on Westgate Road).
Parking
We recommend parking in the Grainger Town Multi-Storey (NE1 4DP) – 5 Minute walk from Newcastle Arts Centre.
Cancelling a course booking?
If you are not able to come to a course you have booked just get in touch with us as soon as you can. We will try to arrange a full refund where possible. Need to cancel your booking? You must inform us at least one week before the course’s start date to guarantee a refund.
